Podcasts and Video Week

Being a visual person, I enjoyed YouTube. Podcasts are just not my cup of tea. Let's face it. I don't even listen to books on audio. Every time I've tried my mind just wanders, and at some point I realize, much to my dismay, that I haven't heard a word. It would seem that if my eyes are not involved my brain does not follow.

As for how this ALL can be used for library purposes. I definitely see the potential for sharing lectures and trainings. In fact, here's some food for thought. In this time of environmental concern and the price of gasoline, why don't we use all this new knowledge and technology for such things as LCDT? Let's break out of the box and live free in the Brave New World of Web 2.0!

Harry Potter Secrets Podcast

I didn't have alot of luck linking onto those three podcast directories. Also, I tried to link to Yahoo's podcast tutorial. It linked to a yahoo page but I could find no link from there to any kind of tutorial. I did look at podcastalley. It sounded to me like a place in hogwarts so I did a search for anything Harry Potter. I added the rss feed to my google reader. Podcast

3rd Rock Humor

This clip includes one of my favorite tv sitcoms with my favorite captain of the Enterprise and a reference to one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes. What more could one want?

You ask, how can this be used in libraryland....well we ALL need a good laugh now and then!

Smashing Mashups

I discovered that I have been using mashups but never realized it before this week's training excerises. Some of the links didn't work and some had no appeal to me whatsoever. However, I did find one that I love playing with
www.gmap-pedometer.com. I've mapped out some walking routes in my neighborhood, gotten the mileage, and calculated calories used. Now all I have to do is actually WALK!

Flickr and Community Spirit

Tagging enables one to search quickly and productively. Flickr allows users to post their photos and tag them so that others can more easily find them among the millions of photos on the web site. Groups consisting of friends who share common interests and family members can be created to enhance "community" participation.
